In 2022 the ATDA lost one of its own, in Vice President Rory Broyles. To honor his legacy, the Delegates to the 34th General Assembly passed Resolution 28 to rename The ATDA Scholarship Fund to The Rory Broyles ATDA Scholarship Fund. Additionally, the Delegates to the 34th General Assembly passed Resolution 27, which limited awards of the scholarship to the top 12 candidates selected by the ATDA Scholarship Committee.
The American Train Dispatchers Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 Rory Broyles Scholarship. In accordance with Resolution 27, adopted by Delegates to the 34th General Assembly, the top twelve applicants were selected based on merit. The awardees were determined through a thorough evaluation process conducted by the ATDA Scholarship Committee. This year’s committee included Bob Sermak, former ATDA Director of Research from the BNSF System Committee; Gordon Smith, former General Chairman of the Soo System Committee; and Reggie Vincent, former ATDA Trustee and General Chairman of the Norfolk Southern Integrated System Committee.
