Atlanta, Georgia – During the week of February 10th, American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA) participated in the latest Fatality Analysis of Maintenance-of-Way and Signalmen (FAMES) quarterly meeting. Held in Atlanta, Georgia, FAMES is a voluntary, consensus-based Committee that identifies risks, trends, and other factors that impact the safety of railroad roadway workers. Designed as a collaborative, non-regulatory effort to save railroad worker lives, the FAMES committee includes representatives from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), rail labor organizations, railroad carriers, and other United States government agencies.
ATDA has participated in FAMES since its 2009 inception, because it recognizes the importance of its voice in making work safer for all craft workers. The Organization was represented at this event by ATDA Vice President Kevin Porter, who said, “Being at these meetings and providing a Train Dispatcher’s perspective is vital to improving MOW safety. The MOW representatives in attendance appreciate our contribution and they know we’re all in this together. We will continue to participate because we know what’s at stake and we must work together to protect our brothers and sisters working in the field.”
